REVIEW OF CHAPTER 23, WEBB PETERSON, and DEPEW & LETTNER-RUST:
BY BETH, BETSY, and PATRICIA
Peterson, Patricia. “The Debate about Online Learning: Key Issues for Writing Teachers.” Computers in the Composition Classroom: A Critical Sourcebook. Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2008. 373-384. Print.

PART I: CHAPTER 23 OVERVIEW
Chapter 23 was written effectively by dividing the information into five parts. The following are questions Patricia Webb Peterson  answers.  What are your thoughts? How would you answer these questions? Which issue are you dealing with? Where do educators get the answers?

1. Introduction: Overview of Online Learning Debate

2. First Key Issue: Teachers’ Role: What is the role?

3. Second Key Issue: Educational Goals: Can Education meet the goal?

4. Third Key Issue: Student Learning: Is Online learning effective?

5. Concluding Remarks: Thoughts of the author.

Part II: REAL WORLD PERSPECTIVE:
Assess is the key.  Elementary Schools get to go to the computer lab once a week. Middle schools teachers and high school teachers have limited access. TCC has one lab for 60 full time and adjunct instructors in the English Department. Most students have more access with their own laptop. But not all students, so it cannot be a requirement, only as an option.
Online Learning:  Students NEED online learning. It is essential for future opportunities and careers. The world of business and education, did educate employees when computers were just being implemented throughout the world. But now it is expected.
Teachers As Mentors: Teachers need to be open to weaving online writing into the class plans.  This may be taken as a school initiative. Teachers will teach teachers and model lessons.
